IMBD Giveaway, Day 5: Two Berkley Bird Illustrations

Sketching, journaling and birding go hand in hand. And with tomorrow being International Migratory Bird Day, Ryan Berkley, Artist and Owner at Berkley Illustration is donating two 5×7 prints. A hummingbird and a cedar waxwing.
“We are a small, handmade, husband and wife operated business,” Berkley recently told me. “Animals and birds are very important to us. I use human clothing on animals as a way to elicit compassion and connection between people and animals.”
Berkley has been drawing personable animals for ten years. Here are some of my favorites:
Yes, yes I know that not all of the ones I included where birds…but I got carried away. To see all available prints check out his website.
The husband and wife art and business team are from Portland, Oregon. They love art, animals, vintage children’s books, family adventures, traveling, and making vegan tacos.
Ryan is a self-taught illustrator best known for his detailed drawings of sophisticated animals in addition to his pop culture and comic-book influenced art. He splits his time between client work, gallery shows, and creating new art for their line of prints and goods. Fun fact: when he draws, he tends to hold his breath and squint. He is a bit obsessive about technical detail and Lucy is always trying to get him to loosen up a little.
In regards to International Migratory Bird Day: “I’m just in awe of the natural instincts of birds. They’ll never stop amazing me,” Berkley says.
